Seth’s Steel Road Frameset:

Here’s a few quick pictures of Seth’s road frameset, before I put it in a box to go to paint.  In a way, this is my interpretation of a modern day Columbus Max tubeset.  The toptube is a Columbus Life 31.8mm tube that I bi-ovalized at the headtube and seattube.  The downtube is a thinner walled 38.1mm Life tube instead of the 34.9mm thicker walled Max pipe.  This delievers the same torsional stiffness, but saves around 60 grams in just the one tube.  I also bi-ovalized this tube in the opposite direction for a cool look against the orientation of the toptube shaping.  The seattube is an externally butted 28.6mm for a “shimless” fit with a 27.2mm seatpost instead of the goofy tapered Max seattube that requires a Braze on front derailleur only (no clamp).  The seatstays are s bend 16mm and the chainstays are Columbus Life short taper with an s bend.  A threaded bb, 1-1/8th headtube, and hooded dropouts round out the tubeset.
