Gallatin Crest

32 miles, 8,900 feet of climbing, and a whole lot of fun.

Working our way up to Hyalite Peak (Looking back towards Bozeman)

Traversing Hyalite Peak

Just follow the ridge to Big Sky is what I was told.

The highest point in the background is Hyalite peak. You can now see the ridge we are riding along.

So how far do we have to go?

The View

In the two photos below you can see that we climb up and over to the right side. Then descend out of view and climb back up to the peak on the left.

Working up to the big Hike.

Top of the push

Down the ridge to the right then back up to the rock rim in the middle.

The high point behind Duke is where the wood arrows were.

Climbing to the top of the Sentinel

We finished by climbing up to the top of Porcupine and descended down into Big Sky Canyon

Yesterday I took some time to work on my bikes. I started by overhauling the fork on my mountain bike. It always amazes me how much better they feel with a little cleaning and some fresh oil.

The freehub body on my town bike was going all fixed gear on me, and not the kind when you wear tight pants and grow a mustache. The kind where the cranks cease to move forward. I pulled it apart and rebuilt that as well. The citrus degreaser never lies……..

Lionhead

It’s been raining like crazy in Bozeman. It has also been unusually cold. The trails in town were too wet to ride, so we went down towards West Yellowstone to the Lionhead Area.

Saturday we rode Mile Creek up to Targhee Peak. It was snowing at the top.

Sunday we rode Sheep Lake.

Boundary to Fisher Loop

Thanks to my friend Reed for the pictures from last weekends ride with the Sun Summit South Guys. We rode up Boundary creek toward the Casino lakes. descended down Martin Creek which took us to Warm Springs Meadow. We finished by climbing up Pigtail creek and down the super buff Fisher Creek.

I also went to Challis for the Braun Brother’s Reunion.

A Lot of Stuff Going On

Things have been pretty busy lately.

Building a “box” for a secret project at the shop.

Carl steps in for a cameo.

Overhauled the pivots on my bike and installed a new headset, seatpost, saddle, stem, handlebar, and shifters.

Jinny’s bike is coming along nicely.

Ready for Parts

I had a big stall out on Jinny’s bike last week, due to this nasty little thing called mountain biking. However, it’s all welded up now and ready for parts. It will have 1 X 9 gearing for more versatility.

Setting up the seatstay bridge

brake bosses going on

Complete bike later this week, I promise.

Curly Lake Highline

Above treeline in the Tabacco Root Mountains

Staircase to the top

Sometimes you have to take things lying down

Duke goes for the spandex hooker boots look

Lots of these little guys up there

5,000′ down………

Big rocks will do that to tubes.

Something tells me the wind blows downhill right here.

The last 20 minutes is just like my hometown, smooth with lots of flowers and sage.
